Musical Training – Atlantic Provinces

Université de Moncton – Music Department
The Université de Moncton's Music Department was founded in 1968 and is the fruit of a long Acadian musical tradition. Its importance has grown over the years, thanks to the high quality of its dynamic staff. Many students and professors have contributed to its national and international renown by the quality of their work as performers and researchers. The Department is housed in a new building with access to excellent musical instruments; a large number of well soundproofed rehearsal halls; classrooms equipped for traditional and media-based instruction; a computer/synthesizer lab and a electroacoustic music research lab.

Conservatoire de musique en Acadie
Founded in July 1991, the Conservatoire de musique de l'Acadie is a private music school that aims to set the standard for excellence in musical education. This incorporated non-profit organization is headquartered in Caraquet. It was first situated in the Old Convent, where professors had two large rooms to give courses locally. The Conservatoire is now located in a former school, École la Nacelle, in Caraquet, more precisely in the Centre culturel de Caraquet. It operates in a decentralized fashion in that instructors continue to teach in their respective regions but are under a Board of Directors.
